location: Los Angeles, California
age: 28 (too old to audition?)
what first drew you to american idol ? well, my sister was the one who got me into it, when they were doing the auditions during the first season. at first i wasn't into it, but when they got to the final 10 i started to watch it and i was hooked!
did you watch both seasons ? yup, been watching since season 1!!!!
which did you like better? why? i would have to say season 1, because it was new and different and you didn't know what to expect. it just really blew me away and when Kelly sang "moment like this" she really meant it when she sang "i can't believe it's happening to me..." it was very touching, she even did this little "whooooo!" noise, she was so overwhelmed! i also liked season 2 because i got very emotionally attached to you guessed it Clay Aiken!
which idol did you like better, kelly clarkson or ruben studdard ? i like Kelly, she has more energy and a versatile voice. and her voice is amazing, i have always thought she's like a mix of today's divas.
In the first season, who was your favorite? why? i really liked Tamyra Gray. she had such a great voice and awesome stage presence. and when she sang Minnie the Moocher, oh man that moment should go down as one of the greatest in AI history! she really brought it home on big band night!
Between Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson, who did you want to be the American Idol ? why? this was a tough call cos i liked Justin's personality but Kelly had the better voice. i would have said Kelly cos substance always wins out in the end for me.
In the second season, who was your favorite? why? this is a silly question ;) i would definitely say Clay Aiken. i liked him since i saw his audition and i rooted for him since then. he always gave an awesome performance and grew into a magnetic stage person, he literally grew before our eyes on the show. and i think he's cute too!
Between Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, who did you want to be the American Idol ? why? i am very biased on this one when i say i wanted it to be Clay. i liked Ruben and i thought he was a good singer but i have always thought that Clay had a far better range vocally. Clay made it seem so effortless to be up there singing he was so comfortable on the stage. Ruben looked like he might be in pain sometimes and i say that because of some of the faces he would make while he sang. Ruben was good but i think he didn;t put as much of his own personality into the songs, i don't know i always felt like something was missing.
Who was your favorite judge? it used to be Paula cos i remember dancing around in my room in the 7th grade to "cold hearted snake!" and also "straight up." she held a lot of fond memories for me when she was a popstar herself so it was a bit of thrill to see her as one of the judges. but after a while, her supersweet demeanor kinda got to me, cos some people needed to be told the truth and she held back on that too much.
If Simon wasn't your favorite judge, what did you think about him? i used to think he was a real jerk but as the show progressed, i realized that all the points he made were very valid and he definitely knew what he was talking about. i came to appreciate his form of critique cos he didn't sugarcoat it, he told it to you straight. sometimes people need that.
Did you go to any of the American Idol Tour Concerts? sadly, no.... but i did buy a ticket for this year's AI Tour so i will be seeing them at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim in september!!!!
What did you think? n/a
Did it change your opinion on any of the contestants? n/a
Have you met any of the Idols of either season ? no i haven't.
If so, what did you think of them ? n/a
Have you ever stalked any of them ? only in my dreams, honey! :)
What do you think of Kelly Clarkson's music career now ? she's doing really great right now, but they should do more for her like album wise cos she has such a great talent.
Do you have her cd ? If so, what do you think ? argh, i still haven't gotten around to buying her cd but i have heard a few songs. i like how she sorta rcks out on some songs, her voice can be feminine but also very strong!
What do you think of Clay Aiken's music career now ? i'm proud of our Clay! he has done very well and really shown what kinds of doors AI can open for someone. and mad props for dropping 19E but you didn't hear that from me!
Do you have his cd ? If so, what do you think ? i have his cd and i think it's good. they didn't do much to showcase his voice on that album but hopefully the next one will be better.
What do you think of Ruben Studdard's music career now ? i hear he's also doing well, save for the drug fiasco in ohio! what was up with that!???!!! but he hasn't had as much exposure as Clay which i find rather odd since Ruben did win the title so it leaves me wondering what th3e heck is going on there.
Will you buy his cd ? i don't think so, i'm not particularly a fan of his style.
What do you think about Justin Guarini's music career now ? ack, it's so sad that his label dropped him! but at the same time, it leaves you wondering what's going on there as well, cos like Kelly won and got all the media exposure and then Ruben won but Clay was the one in the spotlight.... it's really odd how those things worked out or it might just be the luck of the draw, some people make it and some don't.
Do you have his cd ? If so, what do you think ? i didn't get his cd.
What do you think about his record label dropping him? Do you agree ? well, like i said, it's really sad what happened but i think it was the fault of the label for not promoting his album enough. he could have done so much better in sales because he did have a pretty big fan base because of the show. lots of people thought Justin was great!
Your Opinion of...
Kimberly Locke : i really liked her style, she was one of my favorites and i was very happy to see her in the top 3. i still need to go out and buy her album as well...
R.J. Helton : RJ was really cute and sweet, he was the cute guy everybody loved to watch on the show! i heard he out out a christian album, which is kinda cool. i'd love to hear what he put out cos i can't remember too much about him now, it was so long ago.
Frenchie : oh man, Frenchoe was doing it before Fantasia! she was the soul diva with a big voice, it sucks they took her off for topless pictures. i understand that it's a fmaily show but i don't think that a peron's past should harm their future.
Kimberly Caldwell : i wasn't really into her, the only song i liked that she sang was "still rock n roll to me" cos it was a Billy Joel song whom i love! but i thought she made it as far as she did because she was that "sexy blond." i also heard she was on that one show on the WB called popstars or something.
Nikki McKibbin : i wasn't too crazy about Nikki because of the whole Stevie Nicks thing. she sounded NOTHING like Stevie and i couldn't believe that they were comparing her to Stevie! i mean i liked her rock singer thing she had going on, but it sounded too much like she was trying too hard, she just sounded bad to me and didn't have much of her own thing going.
Tamyra Gray : Tamyra Gray is sooo my girl! she was one of my favorites in season 1.
Trenyce : Trenyce was also really cool, even though she sometimes looked like a man in drag! she had a really awesome voice but at the same time had this Grace Jones creepiness about her, is that mean? i guess i'm just mean.
Carmen Rasmusen : you know, i really didn;t see what was the big deal about Carmen. she sang ok, but half the time she was warbling everything. i used to say she was the singing seagull from the Little Mermaid cos yeah, i'm just that mean! but really, her voice was just ok, there were a lot of better singers in the competition that got voted off before she did.
Charles Grigsby : i liked Charles but i thought that Corey Clark was better. Corey reminded me more of Stevie Wonder. Charles had a good voice but he lacked some power in his voice it was just too soft.
Christina Christian : i didn;'t remember much of her in the show but i saw her on the american idol x-mas special and she sounded pretty good.
Julia DeMato : i remember the whole rivalry with her and that other girl who was now dating her ex boyfriend and they both made it and were cool with each other. it was cute. i think Julia could have really made it to the top 5 but she wasn't popular enough for the voting to keep her in. and i'm angry that i forgot to tape her appearance on the Ryan Seacrest show! i really wanted to know what she was up to and when her album is coming out! ah well, i can always ask my fellow AI fanatics!
Have you ever tried out for American Idol ? non nonononononononnnnnoooooo! trust me, america does NOT want to hear me sing! i can carry a tune but i can't do all those vocal acrobatics!
What was your experience ? n/a
Are you planning on trying out next season ? no, i'm not a singer
Are you excited for next season? What do you expect ? i expect to see a friend of mine in the top 12!
Any other opinions you want to include ?
i think AI is a great idea and an awesome way to really make stars out of ordinary people. people are always saying that there are too many pretty people on tv, that they want to see real people make it. well, on american idol that's what happens! you come in there a nobody and everybody is somebody, even if they didn't win the title. that's kinda cool, to have your own 15 minutes of fame.
Do you consider yourself an "OBSESSED" American Idol Fan ?! oh man, by all means YES! i watch the show religiously, i vote when i can ( i go to school in the evenings) and i tape it and rush home to watch. it feels weird when it's not on and i'm seriously going through withdrawals right now! i was in Target earlier today and i found American Idol trading cards and i kinda giggled to myself and bought 2 packs. and i was very happy to see that i got a George Huff card and Jennifer Hudson card! ok, i'm done rambling now!
thanks for reading everybody and hope to see you guys around next season!
